The assumptions of doctors

Why is it that doctors have this incredibly annoying habit of assuming that we “non-medical” people can afford prescriptions just because they can? Yesterday, we got a call from our son`s psychologist that he called in 2 essential vitamins. That`s all well and good, but the vitamins are NOT covered under his insurance, and would have costed us $53. The pharmacy personnel showed me that the same vitamins are available OTC, and all it ended up costing me was $14.50. She said she doesn`t know why doctors do that either, when the otc stuff is just as affective. I`d love to bitch slap him.
